"Mojitos at the Market" Holiday Open House

"Mojitos at the Market" was held at Athens Interiors Market on Thursday, November 8
from 5:30 to 8:30. The event officially kicked off the holiday shopping season. There was special pricing, complimentary gift wrap, and lots of eating and drinking...a festive and successful event!

21st Century Students at Cedar Shoals Unit on Uganda

The students in my 21st Century Jewelry-Making Class at Cedar Shoals just completed a unit on Uganda. The Bead for Life organization allows Ugandan women and children to sell their wares in the Fair Trade Federation. This is a wonderful program that helps producers earn wages and lifts families out of extreme poverty. Their beads become income for housing, medical expenses, food, etc. The women also sell shea butter, jewelry, and peppermint lip balm. My students made jewelry from these wonderful beads made from recycled paper, researched web sites to find more ways to help eradicate extreme poverty, and completed writing assignments related to the topic.
