"The Colors of Healing" Exhibition, The Surgery Center, Athens, GA

I am honored for my art to be at The Surgery Center in Athens, Georgia. The name of my exhibition is, "The Colors of Healing". Research has proven the creative use of visual art, light, and color dramatically changes an environment reducing stress and anxiety.

I have read that people can actually feel their stress melting away replaced by a calm serenity. Some people feel more energized and clear. Others see imagery in the work if it is an abstract, similar to how people see images in a Rorschach inkblot test.

Art therapy is a collection of therapeutic approaches that involve the creative arts. The programs vary and may include aspects of drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, dancing, creative writing, and story telling. Art creation is a means of patients to express and explore their emotions & experiences while in the hospital. Lusebrink, 2004 found that art expression stimulates the brain's tactile-haptic, visual sensory, and perceptual channels; processing then occurs through cognitive and verbal channels. Art therapy can distract from pain & illness which can be a powerful tool in the hospital setting.

My exhibition, "Colors of Healing" will run through the end of August. Stop by The Surgery Center at 2142 West Broad Street, Athens, Ga...two doors down from Longhorn's Restaurant...stucco building with #100 on front and Kaiser Permanente on front...go to back of building...turn right as you enter building and The Surgery Center is there.
